Incident at Don Edwards Preserve on August 17, 2022.
On 8/17/22 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a community member called to report a male floating in the water near the pier at Don Edwards Preserve. Witnesses told Fremont PD Officers that the male fell off the pier and attempts were made to rescue him. Unfortunately, the male floated away before he could be removed from the water. Several agencies responded to assist in the search for the male. After an extensive, hours long search using rescue boats and a helicopter the male was not located at that time. On 8/18/22 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Fremont PD and Fremont Fire Department returned to the area to the report of a possibly deceased male in the water. It was soon confirmed the male was deceased. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office took possession of the deceased male, and they will determine the identity and cause of death. Fremont PD is investigating this incident.
