The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 15th to August 18th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
August 15th

Strong arm robbery – 5800 block of Ray Ave.
At 8:30 am, a contractor was unloading tools from his truck and found an unknown suspect inside the cab.  The suspect was in the process of taking items from inside the victim’s truck.  The suspect exited the truck and punched the victim in the face.  The victim punched the suspect back, causing the suspect to drop the victim’s property.  The suspect fled to an awaiting vehicle.    

Warrant arrest, Possession of controlled substance – 3300 block of Belmont St. 
At 2:30 pm, officers arrested a 36-year-old Stockton man for two outstanding warrants and  a 43-year-old Stockton man for an outstanding warrant.  During a search of the second man, officers located methamphetamine.  Both men were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before being transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Stolen vehicle – 3300 block of Belmont Ave. 
Sometime over the last 8 days, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2009 Mini Cooper. 

August 16th

Commercial burglary – 11265 San Pablo Ave.
Sometime between 8/14/22 and 8/15/22, an unknown suspect shattered the front window of the business and stole the cash register containing $350 cash. 

Recovered stolen vehicle – Hotel Mira Vista, 6009 Potrero Ave. 
An officer located a 1992 Honda Prelude that had been reported stolen to Alameda PD on 8/11/22. 

Petty theft from auto – 600 block of Kearney St. 
Sometime between 8/15/22 and 8/16/22, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole property. 

Assault with a deadly weapon – Ashbury Ave. / Eureka Ave. 
At 2:25 pm, an unknown suspect shot the victim in the back with something similar to a pellet or BB gun.  The victim sustained only a minor abrasion and did not seek medical treatment. 

Criminal threats – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza
At 3:30 pm, an employee became involved in a verbal argument with the manager.  The employee threated to bring family members back to the business and inflict bodily harm. 

Shoplift – Walgreen’s, 11565 San Pablo Ave. 
At 10:45 am, an unknown suspect entered the store with an empty garbage bag and promptly filled it with property.  The suspect then fled the store on foot. 

Theft – 500 block of Liberty St:
At 10:42 PM, an officer reports the victim’s boyfriend, a 39 year old El Cerrito man, took her debit card from her purse while she was in the shower.  The suspect went to a nearby bank and made two withdrawals, then returned the card to the victim’s purse before she knew it was gone.  The victim declined prosecution, and only wanted the incident documented to assist with her child custody battle against the suspect.

August 17th

Vehicle Theft – 7500 block of Terrace Dr:
At 4:45 AM, the victim was awakened when she heard her silver 2001 Honda CR-V being started in her driveway.  The victim looked out and saw the vehicle leaving westbound on Terrace Drive, then waited 10 minutes to call the police.

At 3:30 pm, an officer located a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle that had been reported stolen to Berkeley PD on 8/14/22. 

Possession of a firearm on a school campus – Summit K2, 1800 Elm St. 
At 3 pm, school staff witnessed a student drop a handgun on the school campus.  The student retrieved the handgun and fled the school on foot.  School staff attempted to follow the student but lost sight of the student off campus.  School officials called police approximately one hour later to report the incident. 

Vandalism / Probation Violation – 6120 Potrero Ave (Los Moles):
At 7:47 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 45 year old unsheltered man after he kicked an antique refrigerator on the patio and broke three panes of glass valued at $750.  The suspect was also on probation for robbery, and was transported directly to the county jail.

August 18th

Stolen vehicle – 3000 block of San Mateo St. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1995 Honda Del Sol. 

Petty theft – 1500 block of Richmond St.
At 2:45 pm, an unknown suspect stole a package from the victim’s porch.
