5 DUI arrests made during DUI Saturation Patrol in Petaluma
On Friday night, Petaluma PD deployed two officers to conduct a DUI Saturation Patrol. Between 10:30 PM and 3:00 AM, the two officers arrested three DUI drivers. During the same period Petaluma PD patrol officers arrested another two DUI drivers. At 2:58 AM, Suspect Eli Alfaro, 21 years of age, was reported by another motorist as driving his vehicle on four rims. The witness reported the driver was on Frates Road, swerving all over the road and going about 12 MPH. Patrol officers located the vehicle on Ely Road at Juliet Drive. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and determined that Suspect Alfaro was DUI. Suspect Alfaro may have traveled from Novato. It appears that Suspect Alfaro may have struck a raised curb. Patrol officers checked the area but could not locate where Suspect Alfaro may have crashed. If anyone locates recent damage to a vehicle or road structure between Lakeville Hwy and Ely Road, please contact the Petaluma Police Department. The other four DUI drivers were stopped for vehicle code violations, determined to be DUI, and also arrested.
The Petaluma Police Department has made 170 DUI arrest since January 1, 2022. During the same period in 2021, 93 DUI arrests were made. The Petaluma Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
