08-22-2022 A Tribute to Carol Shepard by Mayor Tom Giordano
On Thursday, August 18, 2022, the Borough of Waldwick was given the sad news of the passing of a good friend, dedicated public servant and former resident Carol Shepard.
Carol moved to Waldwick with her husband Chuck in 1968. She served the residents of Waldwick as a Councilwoman, Council President, Trustee with the Board of Education and Board President.
Carol was the Public Health Nurse for Waldwick taking care of our seniors as well as our babies. She was very active with the Well Baby Clinic and she yearly administrated vaccines and flu shots to our seniors. She was always seen at her second home, 22 Whites Lane, Waldwick.
Carol was active with the Meals on Wheels program in the County and in Waldwick, delivering meals to our residents. Carol always attended every event in Waldwick, whether it was the council meetings sitting in the front row, Memorial Day Parade, Veterans Day Parade, September 11th ceremony, football games, sports award dinners, fundraisers for different organization, Carol was there supporting her beloved community.
Everything that Carol did, she did without asking for anything in return. She was a dedicated person who always worried about others. She made sure that the residents of Waldwick were always taken care of by “Nurse Carol Shepard”.
She will always be remembered for her caring and giving heart. As her son, David told me “She was a little lady who made a big impact in a little town; she stayed in Waldwick for over 50 years because she didn't really want to be anywhere else, doing anything else, for anyone else”.
Carol is predeceased by her son Michael; she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Chuck, her son David and her three grandchildren, Brendan, Brooke and Christian.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM with a 1:00 PM service to follow at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave, Schenectady, NY. Burial to follow at Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam, NY.
A Memorial Service will take place later to be announced to the public in Carol’s beloved hometown Waldwick.
Carol, you fought the good fight, you have finished the course, you have kept the faith. May you now rest in the hands of God who will welcome you home and reward you for all the good you have done. Rest in peace.
Heaven has gained another Warrior; Waldwick has gained another Angel to watch over us.
