Deputies Work to Improve Quality of Life in Unincorporated Areas of the County

DATE/TIME: August 5th and 19th, 2022 / 5:00 p.m.

INCIDENT: Proactive Quality of Life Enforcement

LOCATION: Adams Street, Muscoy and Wagon Train Rd, Phelan (I-15 / HWY 138)

SUMMARY: On Friday, August 5, 2022 and Friday, August 19, 2022, deputies from Central Station participated with a Multi-agency Street Vending Education and Enforcement Campaign in Muscoy. The campaign included San Bernardino County Code Enforcement Division, Environmental Health Services Division, San Bernardino County Fire Prevention Department, and California Highway Patrol. The objective was to address reported concerns from residents related to health hazards and traffic disruptions caused by unpermitted sales of food on private properties and on the public right-of way. The areas covered during the event were State Street and Adams Street, Macy Street and Darby Street, Wagon Train Road in Phelan, and other unincorporated areas in the San Bernardino (Muscoy) community. Deputies provided a safe field environment for non-law enforcement personnel throughout the event.

San Bernardino County Code Enforcement Officers and Environmental Health Inspectors had educational contact with twelve food vendors. County Code Enforcement issued nine Administrative Citations and one warning for the non- allowed land use of private properties and violations of obstruction of clear sight triangle per the Development Code.

Additional deputies conducted proactive traffic patrol, which resulted in 10 California Vehicle Code citations, two misdemeanor citations, two vehicles were towed and one felony warrant arrest was made.

The safety and welfare of the public continues to be a priority. Proactive enforcement remains necessary to help restore quality of life for residents in the Muscoy and Phelan communities. Central Station personnel remain highly committed and will continue to work in partnership with the community.
