The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 19th to August 22nd, 2022.

 
August 19th

Grand Theft – 5600 block of Macdonald Ave.
At approximately 7:50am, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s black/purple Specialized Mountain bike ($8000.00) which was strapped to the back of her vehicle.

Shoplifting – CVS 670 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 9:21am a 41 year old male from Richmond, stole two bottles of alcohol.  El Cerrito Plaza security contacted the male in the parking lot, retrieved the stolen bottles of alcohol from him, and returned them to CVS.  The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. 

Shoplifting – Ross 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 11:35am the suspect entered the store and placed over $300.00 worth of miscellaneous Ross items into a suitcase and a garbage bag.   The suspect exited the store without paying and ran towards the Plaza BART station.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, wearing a jean jacket, and carrying a pink suitcase.

Vandalism – San Pablo Ave at Carlson Blvd. 
At approximately 12:25pm an unknown suspect spray painted graffiti on a cinder block wall and a sliver Dodge Durango.  The suspect was described as a white male adult, in his 30’s, 5’8”, skinny build, with facial hair.  The suspect was last seen walking a southbound on San Pablo Ave pushing a bicycle. 

Stolen License Plates – 600 block of Kearney St.
At approximately 12:22pm the victim reports that an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate off of her 2016 Toyota RAV 4.
 
Stolen Vehicle Report – Steve’s Auto Care 11820 San Pablo Ave.
At 2:55pm an unknown suspect stole a customer’s gold 1997 Honda Accord, while it was there to be serviced. Employees saw the suspect, a black male adult wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, drive the Honda northbound on San Pablo Ave.  
    
Attempted Residential Burglary – 7200 block of Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 2:30pm an unknown suspect kicked in the side garage door while the victim was home.  The suspect fled after hearing the victim’s dogs barking.  The victim heard a motorcycle leaving the area, immediately after the incident.

Petty Theft- 24 Hour Fitness, 10636 San Pablo Ave.
At 1926 hours, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s mountain bicycle that was locked IFO the business. The theft occurred in between 5:50PM-7:00PM.
 
Battery-Pet Food Express,11430 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:13PM, an officer reported the suspect walked behind the register area and touched an employee. While officers were circulating the area for the suspect they received a similar call at a nearby business. Officers responded to that business and located the 28 year old suspect and detained him. The suspect was positively identified during an infield show-up and placed under Citizen’s Arrest. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking he was released on a citation.
 
August 20th

Arrest for a Strong Armed Robbery and a Warrant – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 6:54am a 32 year old female suspect from Richmond was confronted by store security after she stole Safeway items.  The suspect struck the victim in the face with a box of cereal and fled the store with the stolen merchandise.  The female suspect was detained by an El Cerrito police sergeant nearby and positively identified by the victim. The female suspect had an outstanding warrant for shoplifting.  The female was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
 
Shoplifting – Skechers 5805 Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 11:27am an unknown suspect stole several pair of shoes and walked towards Del Norte BART.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, in his 40’s, tall, wearing all black clothing. 

Shoplifting – Valero 11687 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 12:42pm an unknown suspect entered the store and stole a box of torch lighters ($200.00).  The suspect was described as a white male adult, in her 30’s, blonde hair, and was last seen walking northbound through the Honda Dealership parking lot. 

Vandalism – 900 block of Lexington Ave.
An unknown suspect ripped of the right side view mirror to the victim’s vehicle Hyundai Elantra.  The incident occurred on August 19th at 7pm to August 20th at 1pm.

Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Central Ave.
The victim’s burgundy Honda motorcycle was stolen between 3:00am – 11:00 am this morning.

Petty Theft – 11780 San Pablo Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the rear license plate to the victims Hyundai Elantra.  The theft occurred from August 19th at 8pm to August 20th at 3pm.    

Petty theft – 24 Hour Fitness 10636 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 5:23pm an unknown suspect broke into the victim’s gym locker and stole their purse-wallet and keys.  The victims debit card was fraudulently used at the Safeway in El Cerrito. 

Residential Burglary- 2000 Block of Tapscott Ave.
At approximately 11:23pm, an officer reported the victims were sleeping in their bedrooms when they heard banging noises coming from downstairs. When they went to investigate, they saw 2-3 suspects running from their house. There was a delay in calling the police due to the victims “checking” things out first. The victims reported a laptop was stolen during the burglary.
 
August 21st

Shoplifting – Walgreen’s 11565 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 2:02pm the suspect walked behind the register, stole several cartons of cigarettes ($400.00), and fled towards the Del Norte BART station.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, 30-35 years old, 5’6”, medium build, wearing a black puff jacket and blue jeans. 

August 22nd

Shoplifting – Safeway 111450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 7:46am an unknown suspect pushed a shopping cart full of unpaid Safeway items out of the store.  The suspect placed the items in a gray Toyota Camry and drove away.  The suspect was described as a black male adult wearing all black clothing.

Shoplift/ Possession of a Controlled Substance- Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza
Around 8:51PM, an officer was flag down in regards to a theft that had just occurred. Employees pointed out a male, who had just left the store with unpaid merchandise ($130.00). The male was detained and placed under Citizen’s Arrest due to this not being his first theft from the store. During a search incident to arrest, the male was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The male’s identity was confirmed and released on a citation.
