SWAT TEAM TRAINING WITH K-9 NOX
August 26 is the National Dog Day initiative that began in 2004.  The day is set aside for celebrating our furry companions that had been integral parts of our daily lives for at least 14,000 years.  As far back as 1888 our furry companions began helping law enforcement solve crimes using their nose to find criminals. They transitioned from furry companions into canine partners who used their endless energy to help fight crime.  In the age of technology canines have one thing that cannot be replicated, their sense of smell. Canine sense of smell is 10,000 times greater than that of a human. Whether tracking down the suspect to the woods, searching for products or looking for lost persons canines provide service that are unmatched.
Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office maintains a special weapons and tactics team (SWAT). SWAT team members are specifically trained and equipped to work as a coordinated team to resolve hazardous and complex high-risk incidents. Each month the SWAT Team members train on various topics to maintain their proficiency. This month’s training was held at the “TOP DOG POLICE K-9” training center and focused on integrating Calaveras County canine Nox into the SWAT Team tactical plan. Top Dog Police K-9 provided training grounds and simulated residential buildings at no cost to the department.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to wish all canine handlers and canine partners a very happy National Dog Day.
The Calaveras County SWAT Team continually looks for locations unfamiliar to them to help hone their tactical skills. Please contact Lieutenant Greg Stark 209-754-6783 or Sergeant Kevin Stevens 209-754-6028 if you know of or have a training venue that could be utilized by the SWAT Team.
