Suspect Arrested for Stalking Ex-Girlfriend Over Several Months

An estranged ex-boyfriend was arrested in connection with a stalking case lasting several months. Police stopped the suspect along Hwy 101 in San Mateo, and he was found to be in possession of weapons.

San Mateo, CA – On August 26, 2022, at approximately 12:32 a.m., a San Mateo Police Department officer located and arrested Tiray Brewer along northbound Highway 101 at CA 92 as he was attempting to flee San Mateo after threatening to shoot his ex-girlfriend and her associates while mentioning the purchase of grenades. Additionally, officers found him to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to jail.

According to the victim in this case, Brewer has been stalking her since February 2022. He has called her multiple times a day, peered through her window, taken her phone, and threatened her life and the lives of those around her. On August 25, 2022 at 11:00 p.m., Brewer called the victim again. He told her he was driving to San Mateo to shoot her and anyone in her house. He also made mention of buying grenades. Officers saturated the victim’s neighborhood, notified the police department where the suspect lived, and began searching for him.

An officer on patrol located Brewer parked on the shoulder of Highway 101 northbound at the CA 92 connector. Based on Brewer’s location and time of his contact, it appeared he was leaving the victim’s neighborhood and heading back to his home in Brisbane. Officers quickly took him into custody without issue. Brewer was found to be heavily intoxicated while driving the vehicle. A search of his van revealed a baseball bat and four knives. No guns or grenades were located. In addition, Brewer was also in possession of $10,000 Currency Band Bundles, which appeared to be fake money purchased online.

This investigation is ongoing. Always remember, “If you see something, say something.” We are encouraging our community to utilize security cameras. They are especially helpful in identifying suspicious activity in neighborhoods when cameras are street facing. Our officers regularly canvass for cameras and you can help us by notifying SMPD where cameras are located in your neighborhood at www.cityofsanmateo.org/NEST.
