The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 23rd to August 25th, 2022.

 
August 23rd

Residential Burglary – 900 block of Kearney St. 
Sometime over the last two weeks, an unknown suspect entered the shared apartment garage and stole a mountain bike. 

Attempted Grand Theft – 10400 block of San Pablo Ave. 
An elderly victim in the city was contacted via telephone by an unknown suspect.  The suspect claimed to work for the U.S. Social Security Administration.  The suspect coerced the victim into withdrawing a large sum of cash from his bank account.  Luckily, the victim’s relatives recognized the scam in progress and called police. 

Commercial Burglary- Tower Cleaners, 7533 Fairmount Ave.
At 3:10 am, officers were dispatch to a burglary. During the investigation officers discovered, an unknown suspect shattered the glass of the front door to gain entry and stole cash.

Shoplift – Pet Food Express, 11430 San Pablo Ave. 
At 12:30 pm, an unknown suspect entered the store, selected 2-3 bags of dog food, and left without paying. 

Petty Theft – 1000 block of Liberty St. 
At 3 pm, an unknown suspect stole a package from the victim’s porch.  

August 24th

Strong arm Robbery – Valero, 11687 San Pablo Ave. 
At 8:27 am, two unknown suspects entered the store and walked around behind the counter.  They proceeded to steal Lottery scratchers until the store clerk confronted the suspects and blocked their path to the counter and scratchers.  One of the suspects threatened that he was armed with a firearm and would shoot the clerk.  The confrontation caused the suspects to flee the business. 

Grand Theft – Walgreen’s, 11565 San Pablo Ave. 
At 2:45 pm, an unknown suspect walked behind the cash register, selected $1000 worth of cigarettes, and fled without paying. 

Grand Theft – 24-hour Fitness, 10636 San Pablo Ave.
Between 7 and 7:45 pm, an unknown suspect broke into a woman’s locker and stole her purse, wallet, and keys. 

Robbery-Footlocker, 430 El Cerrito Plaza
At 6:20 pm, an officer reports a male suspect exited the business with a pair of shoes without paying for them. Several employees confronted him in the parking lot and there was a struggle over the property. When several community members tried to assist, a female suspect came out of an awaiting vehicle and punched an employee and two community members. The employees were able to retrieve the shoes. The suspects entered a vehicle with the female as the driver. The female attempted to hit an employee and the community members with the vehicle.

August 25th

Theft of license plates, Recovered stolen plates – 1700 block of Manor Circle
Within the last two years, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s rear license plate and replaced it with a plate that had been reported stolen to Burlingame PD in 2020. 

Driving Under the Influence- San Pablo Ave./Cutting Blvd
At 12:12 am, an ECPD officer reports a BART PD officer located a male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the intersection. The officer placed a patrol vehicle IFO the male’s vehicle to prevent it from entering traffic. When the officer contacted the male, he released his foot from the brake petal causing his vehicle to move forward and bump into the officer’s patrol vehicle. During the DUI investigation, the ECPD officer determined the male was under the influence and placed under arrest.  After booking, the male was release to a sober friend.
