Pedestrian Found Lying in the Street After Vehicle Hit Him and Left the Scene

LOCATION: East Baseline Street near McKinley Avenue, Highland
INVOLVED PARTY: Unknown; Fled the Scene of the Collision
VICTIM(S): 30-year-old Male, Resident of Highland, Name Withheld Pending Next of Kin Notification.
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 11:49 p.m., deputies from the Highland Sheriff’s Station responded to East Baseline Street, east of Mckinley Avenue, for a report of an unresponsive male lying in the roadway. Upon their arrival, they found the male lying in the westbound bicycle lane. It appeared the male had been struck by a vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts, the male succumbed to his injuries.
The Region Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the collision and assumed the investigation. It appeared the male walked southbound across East Baseline Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that drove westbound. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene before the deputies arrived. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
