Here’s your weekend reminder that the Newark Police Department does not tolerate reckless driving.

Last weekend Officer Quinonez observed a vehicle driving recklessly in the area of Dupont Ave and Blackwood Dr. During the officer’s investigation, a second vehicle driving recklessly, drove by at a high rate of speed from Cedar Blvd onto Newark Blvd. Officer Garcia located the second vehicle as it attempted to go onto eastbound Highway 84 and on-viewed it spin-out on the shoulder. The driver fled on foot. Additional officers arrived on scene and quickly took the subject safely into custody. The subject, a 23-year old male out of Newark, was ultimately arrested for DUI, reckless driving and obstructing a peace officer. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail and his vehicle (featured in the photo) was impounded for 30-days.

The driver of the initial vehicle, also a 23-year old male out of Newark, was ultimately arrested for DUI and booked at Santa Rita Jail. His vehicle was also impounded for 30-days.

The safety of our community is of the utmost importance to us! Great job to our patrol team for keeping Newark safe!
