INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: State Highway 138, west of Rainbow Ridge Road
INVOLVED PARTY (1): 24-year-old Male Resident of Crestline (deceased)
INVOLVED VEHICLE (1): White 2014 BMW S1000RR (Motorcycle)
INVOVLED PARTY (2): 21-year-old Female Resident of Bloomington (No injuries)
INVOLVED VEHICLE (2): White 2022 Toyota Camry
SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 28, 2022, at approximately 9:12 a.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision on State Highway 138, west of Rainbow Ridge Road, in Hesperia. Upon arrival, deputies determined there was a collision between a BMW motorcycle and a Toyota Camry. The Toyota Camry traveled east on State Highway 138 and the BMW motorcycle was traveling west on Highway 138, along with the driver of a Honda motorcycle. For an undetermined reason, the driver of the BMW motorcycle drove into the eastbound lane of State Highway 138 and collided head on into the Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota Camry did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the BMW motorcycle sustained fatal injuries. Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash at this time.
The driver of the Honda fell off his motorcycle following the collision. The Honda motorcycle driver was transported to a trauma center where he remains in critical condition. It does not appear there was any physical contact between the Honda motorcycle and the vehicles from the initial crash.
Identification of the 24-year-old male rider of the BMW motorcycle is pending next of kin notification. State Highway 138 was closed for several hours while deputies from the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) processed the scene.
