The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito August 26rd to August 28th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
  
August 26th

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS);
At 8:07 pm while an officer was patrolling they were flagged down by security who advised a suspect had just exited the store without paying for merchandise.  The suspect was detained by the officer and placed under citizen’s arrest.  The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.  The suspect was issued a citation and was released at the scene.

 Grand Theft – 300 block of Behrens St. 
At approximately 8:06am two male suspects stole the victim’s catalytic converter from her Toyota Prius.  A witness was jogging in the area and saw the suspects underneath the victim’s vehicle cutting the catalytic converter.  The witness scared the suspects off then notified the victim.

Petty Theft – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 11:26am the suspect stole the victim’s wallet out of her purse, while the victim was shopping.  The suspect was described as a black female adult, 35 years old, 5’7”, wearing a gray shirt and gray pants.  The suspect fled in a white Jeep northbound on San Pablo Ave. 

Grand Theft – AT&T 4010 El Cerrito Plaza
At approximately 1:09pm the suspect cut the security wires off an IPhone 12 that was on display and fled the store with the phone.  The suspect was described as a white male adult, tall, heavy set, wearing all black clothing, with a scarf covering his face.  

Petty Theft – Jay Vee Liquor 10560 San Pablo Ave
At 1:54pm a suspect stole a bottle of soda, after his EBT card was declined.  The suspect was described as a BMA, bald, wearing all black clothing.

Public Intoxication – San Pablo Avenue at Waldo Avenue;
At 9:50 pm officers were dispatched to the area for the report that two suspects were attempting to break a window of a parked vehicle.  When Officers arrived they contacted the suspects and found them to be extremely intoxicated.  It turns out the vehicle belonged to one of these people and they were trying to break the window because they had locked the keys in the vehicle.  The suspects were unable to get a sober person to come and pick them up so they were placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
