IMPD makes arrest in Saturday morning shooting downtown

This afternoon, IMPD located and detained the person believed to be responsible for the shooting Saturday morning that resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others.  The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Shamar Duncan.  He is currently under arrested for murder.

Duncan will not be eligible for release prior to the case being reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO).  An arrest is merely an accusation.  Duncan should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.  The MCPO will review the case and make the final charging decision including possible additional charges associated with this case.

IMPD detectives want to thank members of the community for their cooperation during this investigation.  During the investigation, multiple individuals spoke with detectives and provided detectives with video connected to the investigation.  More specific information will be available at a later time.

IMPD does not provide probable cause affidavits for people under arrest.  They should be requested through the MCPO’s office. The suspect’s mugshot is not releasable at this time due to investigative steps that need to occur prior to it being released.  We respectfully ask our media partners not to release any photos of the alleged suspect at this time. We do not anticipate any further updates on this case tonight.
