TRAFFIC DETOUR - NORTH MAIN ST AT RR STATION CLOSED AUG 31 THROUGH SEPT 1 FOR REPAIRS - TAKE DETOUR

Norfolk & Southern Railroad has scheduled a complete rehabilitation of the railroad crossing on North Main near the train station in Marion Virginia for August 31 through September 1.   The work means the entire roadway will be closed during the construction, and the Town of Marion is working with the railroad to provide detours and alternate routes to minimize traffic interruptions.
According to local officials, the entire crossing will be closed for approximately 48 hours on August 31st and September 1st..  Traffic will be rerouted via Johnson Road and Brunswick Lane.  Signage will be installed on August 29th..
Additionally, Town of Marion crews will be working on the Chatham Hill Drainage Project, especially those portions that will require coordination with the railroad for drainage structures to be installed underneath the rails.  That means Chatham Hill Road, one of the usual primary detours, will also have road construction with flagging operations in place, so drivers using that route should expect traffic delays.
“We apologize in advance for any inconvenience,” said Marion Town Manager Bill Rush, “but we are pleased that Norfolk & Southern is taking care of their property and that we can coordinate our work to minimize traffic interruptions as best we can.”
