LOCATION: US HWY 395/ Chamberlaine Way, Adelanto
Driver #1: Apolinar Lopez, 18-years-old, resident of Adelanto
Driver #2: Enrique Meza, 33-years-old, resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY:
On Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 1:19pm, deputies responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of US Hwy 395 and Chamberlaine Way in Adelanto.
Apolinar Lopez was travelling northbound on US Highway 395 when he ran a red light at the intersection of Chamberlaine Way. Enrique Meza was driving eastbound on Chamberlaine Way, crossing US Highway 395. Lopez’s vehicle broadsided Meza’s vehicle, causing major damage to both vehicles and trapping Meza inside. Meza was extricated to by the fire department and transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by Deputy L Torres of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Departments Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.). Distracted driving is believed to be a factor in the collision.
