TRAFFIC SAFETY: School is back in session, here are some traffic safety tips and reminders.

As many of you know, school is back in session.  This means increased traffic during drop off and pick up around our schools.  We want to take a minute to remind our community of some tips for those taking kids to school, picking them up, or just driving in the area of a school during this time.

First and foremost:
BE PATIENT!  The Arcadia Unified School District is a very big school district and has a significant number of students.  Drop off and pick up is very busy around all of our schools.

LEAVE EARLY:  Don't wait till the last minute. Running late can cause parents to rush and make poor choices while dropping off/picking up their students.

DRIVE SAFELY:  This is a good reminder for every time you get behind the wheel, but especially when there are kids around.

OBEY THE LAWS:  Remember the speed limit in a school zone is 25 MPH.  Pay attention to traffic signals, crosswalks and most importantly pedestrians in the area of schools.

DON'T DOUBLE PARK!!:  One of the biggest complaints we receive around our schools is illegal parking.  Please be patient, drop your student off/pick them up in the designated area.  This should NOT be done from a lane of traffic.  Pull to the curb, where legal to do so, and let your student out.  Not only is double parking illegal, it is extremely unsafe!

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY:  Remind your students to use sidewalks, crossswalks and/or use the assistance of Crossing Guards where applicable.  Crossing outside of a crosswalk, especially when done from between parked cars is also very unsafe, and can be illegal.  The basic rule of:  Look Left, Look Right, then Left again is a good practice.  Even when using a crosswalk.

We try to have officers at each school as often as possible.  Unfortunately, we can't be at every school every day.  This is where you come in.  If we can all practice these tips, things will go much smoother during student drop off/pick up around our schools.

Thank you and please BE SAFE!!
