High School Students Report Suspicious Social Media Post
On Thursday, August 31, 2022, at 8:02 PM, the Petaluma Police Department received a telephone call from St. Vincent High School administration. The school had received information about a social media post received by two students that contained images of guns and references to a gun shooting. St. Vincent High School decided to cancel classes today. The social media posts did not reference any schools or any location in Petaluma. The police department does not believe there is any credible threat to schools in Petaluma. The case was forwarded to our Investigations Unit for further investigation. In June of this year, a similar type of case occurred in Petaluma, where the post originated out of state and resulted in a suspect being arrested for creating the post.
We continue to collaborate with administrators from both St. Vincent High School and other school districts in Petaluma and appreciate their partnership in keeping our students safe. We want to thank the public for their continued vigilance in reporting suspicious behavior.
