Here are some traffic safety tips to keep our kids safe:
Students – walking to and from school
We know the first few days of the school year there will be added traffic and some confusion. By allowing extra travel time and using reduced speeds we can make it a great start to the school year.
Schools back Tuesday
Schools Start Next Week!
South Brunswick Police want to remind all community members that students will return to school next week in the Township. The start of a new school year brings a lot of excitement. “We will have officers at every school to start each day to assist in any way possible,” said Chief Raymond Hayducka. This will be the 15th year for South Brunswick Police Operation Safe Schools. Operation Safe School is an effort to enhance the safety and security of our schools. Each year the department dedicates additional officers to assist with the transition back to the new school year. “We have tremendous partnerships with the South Brunswick School District and our private schools in the township,” said Hayducka. In addition to being at the schools, there will be added traffic enforcement around the schools. Here are some traffic safety tips to keep our kids safe:
Students – walking to and from school
- Pay attention to all traffic signals and/or the crossing guard – never cross the street against a light, even if you don’t see any traffic coming
- Always walk on the sidewalk (where provided), otherwise walk facing traffic.
- Walk with a friend(s)
- Wear reflective material… it makes you more visible to street traffic
- Never run out from between cars
- Be mindful of students and drive with caution in school zones
- Watch for school bus stop arms and stop when they are present
- Allow extra time for your morning commute
- Be mindful of added traffic around schools
- Be aware of extra pedestrian traffic
- Yield to students or pedestrians in crosswalks
