Cooling Center Extended at the Rosemead Community Recreation Center

The City of Rosemead is happy to offer our residents and community members a safe and comfortable location to relax and cool down during this heatwave. The Rosemead Community Recreation Center (RCRC), which serves as the City’s Cooling Center, is activated when the temperature in Rosemead exceeds 95 degrees for two consecutive days.

Due to the excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service, the City of Rosemead Cooling Center will now be open through Wednesday, September 7th. The RCRC Cooling Center is located at 3936 North Muscatel Avenue and is open to the public.

The dates and hours of the Cooling Center at RCRC are as follows:

DATES ACTIVATION HOURS
Friday, September 2 7 am – 6 pm
Saturday, September 3 7 am – 6 pm
Sunday, September 4 7 am – 6 pm
Monday, September 5 *Labor Day* 11 am – 6 pm
Tuesday, September 6 7 am – 6 pm
Wednesday, September 7 7 am – 6 pm

The services available to Rosemead residents include open seating and restrooms. Meals and beverages will not be provided; however, those visiting the RCRC are welcome to bring their own snacks and food.

The health and safety of our staff and residents is our number one priority. To adhere to the L.A. County Public Health Officer’s Order, the following will be implemented:
  • You cannot enter the RCRC if you have a cough, fever, or are actively following isolation on quarantine orders,
  • Visitors must use a face covering at all times inside the RCRC,
  • Maintain a minimum of 6 ft. distance from other visitors, and
  • No animals are allowed at the RCRC (except for service dogs).
The City of Rosemead encourages residents to check on neighbors and family members (seniors in particular) who may be sensitive to extreme heat. Residents are encouraged to take precautions to stay healthy during a heatwave by drinking plenty of water, limiting activities to cooler times of the day, wearing lightweight and comfortable clothing, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
