NEWS RELEASE - 3 Cases: Burglary, Animal Cruelty, Fraud Arrest

SOUTH BRUNSWICK POLICE NEWS RELEASE
 
Case Updates:
South Brunswick Police are looking for information on two cases and providing an update on a third case.
 
 
BURGLARY
Police responded to a burglary on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 1:50 PM on Greyhound Court. The resident was home and heard the front doorbell ring but ignored it. Minutes later the resident observed the suspect forced entry to the rear sliding door and make entry. The suspects saw the resident and fled. The suspects were all wearing surgical masks. They are described as 3 males – one wearing all black with a black hoodie, one wearing a white t-shirt, and one wearing a grey hoodie and grey sweatpants. They fled the area in a grey Honda Accord or Altima. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jamal Benbow at (732) 329-4648.
 
 
ANIMAL CRUELTY
Detective Monica Posteraro continues to investigate a case of animal cruelty. On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 8:45 pm a motorist driving on Route 130 near Route 32 close to NJ Turnpike Exit 8A observed a dog tied to a tree with a leash. The dog, a white pitbull with an orange color, was unneutered and appeared underweight. Investigators are looking for any witnesses that may have seen a vehicle or truck stopped on the side of the road in that area between 5 pm and 8:30 pm.

FRAUD ALERT
On August 29, 2022, the South Brunswick Police Department received reports that a contractor had taken money from several area residents to perform various contracting work around their homes. In total, four homeowners reported being defrauded of over $70,000.
 
While Officer Justin Samuels and Officer Dale Hubner were speaking with the homeowners, the suspect drove by in a black pickup truck. Residents pointed out the truck and the officers who were got in their patrol car and stopped the pickup truck. The suspect, Thomas Cash age 20 provided a passport from Great Britain and said he was staying in South Plainfield for a few weeks. He told officers he was working as a paving and landscaping contractor under the business, Alfa Paving and Landscaping from New York. The officers along with Detective Monica Posteraro determined that Mr. Cash had offered to do various jobs and did minimal work to receive the first payment before never returning to complete the work.
 
He was interviewed, processed, and lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center on a warrant for four counts of third-degree Theft by Deception. Any individuals who may have been victimized by Thomas Cash or have additional information are asked to contact Detective Monica Posteraro at 732-329-4000 x 7478.
 
The South Brunswick Police Department is urging residents to be aware of Home Improvement Scammers and to report any and all attempts or actors that may be using suspicious business tactics.
