Incident Summary
 
On Sunday, September 4th, 2022, at approximately 7:00 PM, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Fire Department responded to the area of Lakeville Highway and Casa Grande Road for a traffic collision. Upon arrival on scene, officers learned the driver of the vehicle, Salvador Rodriguez had been involved in collision with a semi-tractor pulling a car hauler trailer.
 
After speaking with involved parties and witnesses on scene, it was determined Rodriguez was driving a Nissan Frontier westbound on Lakeville Highway. As Rodriguez approached the intersection of Casa Grande Road, he made a sudden lane change and collided into the rear of the car hauler. During the investigation officers observed empty alcoholic containers on the floorboard of Rodriguez’ vehicle.  He also displayed objective signs of alcohol intoxication. Rodriguez was evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol and ultimately arrested for DUI.
 
         
Between Friday and Saturday night, Petaluma PD has arrested 15 DUI drivers over the Holiday Weekend. Officers continue remain proactive for the remainder of the weekend, evaluating drivers for driving under the influence.
    
 
The Petaluma Police Department is committed to increasing traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions. Petaluma Police advise motorists to plan ahead by designating a sober driver.  Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
