Flood Advisory until 05:45PM

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including the following counties, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, Mitchell, Rutherford and Yancey.

* WHEN...Until 545 PM EDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 939 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rainfall due to persistent, repeated heavy showers. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen over the past three hours and additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is likely through early afternoon. Flooding problems may worsen this afternoon. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Morganton, Marion, Spruce Pine, Newland, Blowing Rock In Caldwell County, Glen Alpine, Old Fort, Banner Elk, Elk Park, Beech Mountain In Avery County, Crossnore, Sugar Mountain, Seven Devils, B.R. Parkway-Little Switzerland To Linville, Linville Falls, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Table Rock, B.R. Parkway-Linville Falls To Grandfather and Grandfather Mountain State Park. Flooding is most likely along Curtis Creek, Licklog Creek, Mackey Creek, Crooked Creek, and tributaries to the Catawba River. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
