Suspect Drives on Wrong Side of Freeway and Later Drives through Chain Link Fence Causing Property Damage

DATE/TIME: Sunday, September 4, 2022 / 2:44 a.m.

INCIDENT: Vehicle Pursuit, Felony Vandalism

LOCATION: Cedar Avenue / Interstate 10, Unincorporated Bloomington

VICTIM:        Property Owner in Bloomington

SUSPECT: Cesar Rojo, a 29-year-old Male Resident of Riverside

SUMMARY: On Sunday, September 4, 2022, at about 2:44 a.m., deputies from the Fontana Station were notified of a vehicle driving west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, near Cedar Avenue. A nearby patrol unit assisted the Rialto Police Department, who began to pursue the vehicle. The driver, Cesar Rojo, drove down the wrong direction, down the offramp, towards a deputy who had their lights and siren on. For public safety, law enforcement did not pursue while Rojo drove the wrong direction on the freeway.

A short time later, Deputy Hernandez located the suspect vehicle on Cedar Avenue, near Interstate 10.  Rojo again failed to yield, and deputies pursued him for several miles, with the assistance of the Rialto Police Department. The pursuit ended in the area of Rose Avenue and Birch Avenue when Rojo intentionally drove through a chain link fence. He entered private property where he damaged several plants and water lines. Rojo was taken into custody without further incident.

The vehicle he drove was found to be stolen from the city of Riverside. The Rialto Police Department determined Rojo was involved in several crimes in their city prior to the vehicle pursuit. They arrested Rojo and booked him into West Valley Detention Center for several felony charges.
