The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito September 2nd to September 5th, 2022.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
September 2nd
Stolen Vehicle – 700 block of Ashbury Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the victims 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. The theft occurred from September 1st at 9pm to September 2nd at 10am.
Residential Burglary – 6800 block of Glen Mawr Ave.
An unknown suspect pried open the kitchen window and stole $5000.00 worth of jewelry. The incident occurred between 10:45am to 12pm.
Petty Theft – 5200 block of Cypress Avenue;
At 5:43 pm an officer was sent to the report of a stolen license plate from a vehicle while tit was parked at the above location.
September 3rd
Arrest for Trespassing – Denny’s 11344 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 11:20am officers responded to an unwanted subject inside the restaurant. A 62 year old transient female refused to leave, yelled at staff and yelled racial slurs to customers. The female is a known habitual unwanted person at the restaurant and the manger wanted to place her under citizen’s arrest for trespassing. Officers escorted the female out the front doors, where she continued yelling and refused to leave the premises. The female began threatening officers and continued to harass customers in the parking lot. The female was placed on a psychiatric hold per 5150W&I for being a danger to others and had to be restrained onto a gurney. The female was given a citation for trespassing and transported to the County Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Grand Theft – 1700 block of Elm St.
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic convert from the victims 2011 Honda Element. The incident occurred from September 2nd, at 11pm to September 3rd at 10:30am.
Warrant Arrest – Arlington Blvd at Madera Cir.
At approximately 2:33pm an El Cerrito police officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 24 year old female from Richmond for an outstanding warrant from the Milpitas Police Department. The female as given a citation for her warrant and released from the scene.
Vandalism – 11450 San Pablo Avenue (Safeway);
At 5:58 pm an officer was sent to the report that three suspects had just shattered a window of a vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot.
Vandalism – 10900 Block of San Pablo Avenue;
At 10:36 pm an officer was sent to the report that during the previous 24 hours someone had shattered the rear window of a vehicle.
September 4th
Tampering with a Vehicle – 7700 block of Potrero Ave.
At approximately 7:41am neighbors heard the victims GMC Yukon car alarm sounding. The neighbors saw a red SUV parked in the middle of the roadway with its hazards on. As they exited their residence, the red SUV fled eastbound on Potrero Ave. The victim’s driver’s side door handle was ripped off, but it did not appear as if the suspects made it inside the vehicle.
Defrauding an Innkeeper – Denny’s 11344 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 7:13am two suspects ate $25.00 worth of food and left without paying. The suspects were described as two black male adults, wearing black clothing, and was last seen walking towards Del Norte BART.
Petty Theft – 5600 block of San Diego Street;
At 7:20 pm an officer was sent to the report that a license plate had been stolen from a vehicle sometime in the previous 24 hours.
September 5th
Hit and Run (Property Damage Only) – Liberty St. at Schmidt Ln.
At approximately 12:57 pm victim’s parked vehicle was sideswiped by a white Chevy truck. The victim followed the truck to the 1100 block of Liberty St. where the driver, a WMA 5’7”, 40’s, wearing a white shirt and black jeans, walk to the rear of a residence. Officer’s later contacted the known driver. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
Grand Theft Person – Key Bl. At Humboldt Avenue;
At 5:51 pm while a woman was walking on the street and vehicle pulled up and asked for directions. A woman exited the vehicle and thanked the woman and hugged her. She then started to give the victim some jewelry and then left. As the woman was walking home she realized her necklace had been stolen when the woman hugged her.
Negligent Discharge of a Firearm – Shevlin Drive at Moeser Lane;
At 9:19 pm a neighbor reported that someone had just fired a gun into the air and got into a vehicle which fled down Moeser Lane. The firearm was fired into the air and there was no damage to any property.
