Incident Summary
 
Beginning on Friday, September 2nd 2022 and working through Monday, September 5th 2022, the Petaluma Police Department made vigorous efforts to combat DUI drivers during the Labor Day Holiday.  Patrol Officers as well as four Officers assigned to an Office of Traffic Safety Grant specifically looking for impaired drivers arrested 18 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of either alcohol and/or drugs.
 
Also, during this same time period, the Petaluma Police Department responded to and reported 13 total collisions over the holiday weekend.
 
Petaluma is known for having a high concentration of establishments where alcohol is served especially in the downtown area.  The majority of the holiday DUI arrests came from the downtown area of Petaluma.  The Petaluma Police Department encourages people who visit and enjoy Petaluma, to plan ahead and either designate a sobor driver, use ride share or call a taxi to avoid drinking and driving.  Driving Under the Influence is 100% preventable. 
             
The Petaluma Police Department is committed to increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions.  We will continue our efforts to locate and identify impaired drivers.  Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
