Meridian Police Department Participates in Crime Prevention Month
MERIDIAN- As part of this year’s Crime Prevention Month Campaign, the Meridian Police Department is encouraging residents to become more alert and aware of what is going on around them, including in their own neighborhoods.
Since 1984, October has been designated as National Crime Prevention Month. Members of local, state and national law enforcement make special efforts to educate and alert the community during this time about how to recognize, report and prevent crime in their neighborhoods. In conjunction with the national observance of ‘Crime Prevention Month’ in October, the Meridian Police Department will be providing the community with information about preventing crime.
“We encourage all of our residents to get to know their neighbors,” Crime Prevention Specialist Jennifer Abrao said. “Neighbors who look out for each other and report suspicious activity is the best crime prevention tool any neighborhood can have. This is why we encourage neighborhoods to have an active neighborhood watch program.”
Meridian Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit provides multiple opportunities for community members to get to know their neighbors and their police department throughout the year. Residents can subscribe to updates from the Meridian Police Department and follow on Facebook and Twitter for upcoming opportunities.
