Press Release - Carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle, prohibited person possessing a firearm
On September 2, 2022, at approximately 4:02 PM, Corcoran Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of Otis Avenue for a mechanical violation. The driver, identified as David Curiel, was found to be driving on a suspended license. A search was conducted on the vehicle and a 9mm handgun was located. The firearm was found not to have a serial number, commonly referred to as a “Ghost Gun.” A 30 round high-capacity magazine was also located along with the firearm. Officers determined Curiel was prohibited from owning a firearm. While booking Curiel into the Corcoran City Jail officers discovered he was in possession of a small amount of cocaine. Curiel was arrested and booked at the Corcoran City Jail before being transported to the Kings County Jail, where he is being held on a bail of $85,000. Curiel was charged with being in possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and driving on a suspended license.
