Chula Vista to Test Emergency Alert System Monday, September 12
The City of Chula Vista is one of 42 public safety agencies across the United States who have partnered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to participate in the first nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. Public safety agencies, including Chula Vista, will conduct a test of the WEA system between September 12-13. The objective of this test is to determine the speed, reliability, and accuracy of the WEA system to disseminate messages to geographically targeted areas. During an emergency, time and information are critical to the preservation of life and property. Public safety officials must be able to communicate with the community in a timely and effective manner, and provide life-saving information.
The City of Chula Vista will perform its WEA test on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 3 p.m. Anyone within 0.7 miles of 315 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista CA 91910 (Chula Vista Police Department address), will receive an emergency alert on their cell phone (similar to an AMBER alert). The WEA message will read “TEST. Go to https://www.fcc.gov/wea to provide feedback on your receipt of this test.” All test recipients are encouraged to respond to the survey at the link provided.
