The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for... Southwestern Imperial County in southeastern California...
* Until 415 PM PDT.
* At 1124 AM PDT, Doppler radar and automated USGS stream gauges indicated an ongoing rise in the New River. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... El Centro, Calexico, Imperial, Plaster City, El Centro Naval Airfield, Mt. Signal, Seeley, Dixieland and Heber. The New River at the USGS stream gage near the International Border is close to a 13 foot stage. With the anticipated rainfall in the coming hours the New River is expected to continue to rise. At 15.5 foot stage it would be over the top of its banks near the stream gage.
