Contact: Lieutenant Andrew Smith       (707) 584-3553         Thursday-Sunday

On September 10, 2022 at approximately 2:00am, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Golf Course Drive for a subject brandishing a machete and attempting to ram an occupied vehicle. While responding, officers observed a white and red Chevrolet Suburban SUV operating recklessly and appeared to be chasing a security vehicle. The SUV was driven by a male, who was later identified as Daniel Dickens (36 years old). When officers attempted a traffic stop, the SUV failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The slow-speed vehicle pursuit traveled approximately six (6) miles before it concluded at South A Street and Earl Street, located in the city of Santa Rosa. While giving orders to Dickens to exit the vehicle, Dickens put his vehicle in gear and attempted to flee again. In an effort to prevent Dickens from fleeing and reduce the risk of danger to the officers and public safety, an officer used his marked police vehicle to prevent Dickens’ vehicle from moving. When Dickens refused to comply with orders to exit his vehicle, officers deployed foam projectiles, breaking the vehicle windows. Officers then deployed OC spray to gain compliance, but it had no effect on Dickens.

After approximately twenty (20) minutes of negotiating with Dickens, he exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. Dickens was charged with one felony count of 2800.2(a) CVC – Evading with wanton disregard, one felony count of 530.5(a) PC – Possession of personal information to obtain credit, and one misdemeanor count of 231110(a) CVC – Throwing substance at a vehicle. Dickens was transported to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and is being held on a $20,000 bond.

During this incident, officers were assisted by the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is requesting anyone with information related to this incident to contact Dispatch at (707) 584-2600 and refer to Case #22-3557.
