DUI Checkpoint Results
Simi Valley, CA – The Simi Valley Police Department conducted a Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, September 10th. The checkpoint was held in the southbound lanes of Madera Road near Strathearn Place, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.
During the checkpoint, 871 drivers were screened, resulting in one arrest for DUI. One driver was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license, five drivers were cited for driving without a license, and one citation was issued to a driver for other offenses.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the monetary impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and possible jail time.
The Simi Valley Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.
The Simi Valley Police Department will be conducting another Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoint in the future, in our ongoing commitment to take impaired drivers off our streets and highways. Driver’s License/DUI Checkpoints aid in lowering the risks of deaths and injuries associated with impaired driving. This DUI Checkpoint was funded by a grant awarded by the Office of Traffic Safety.
