SOMERSET COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF CHIEF’S OF POLICE IS PARTNERING WITH THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TO SPONSOR COUNTY RESIDENTS TO BECOME A POLICE OFFICER.
Police Officer Basic Functions
-Patrol assigned areas.
-Work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
-Enforce Federal, State, and Municipal Laws, including ordinances and regulations.
-Conduct Criminal Investigations.
-Prepare a variety of records and reports.
-Aid the public in emergency and non-emergency situations.
-Conduct traffic control.
-Administer first aid and medical services.
Ability to:
-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
-Analyze dangerous situations rapidly and accurately.
-Determine appropriate level and scope of a police response.
-Work courteously and tactfully with citizens and employees.

Eligibility Requirements
-Be a citizen of the United States of America and a Somerset County, New Jersey resident.
-Be not less than 21 years nor more than 35 years of age.
-Be of good moral character and never have been convicted of a crime or any offense involving moral turpitude.
-Be sound in body and mind and eligible for membership in the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System of New Jersey.
-Be able to read, write and speak English well.
-Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
-Possess an associate degree or 60 college credits from an accredited college or university or have 2 years military experience.
-Be able to pass a written, physical, and medical examination administered by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office to be considered to attend the hiring agencies Police Academy.
