UPDATE #1
Detectives arrested 29-year-old Bryan De La Torre for attempted murder for his alleged role in the incident at 6004 Massachusetts Avenue.
Following a search of the building, detectives located and recovered four firearms inside the business and numerous fired shell casings (photos attached). Officers identified fentanyl contamination inside the building. There was also diesel fuel and other legal chemicals in the building. The building is still being processed for forensic evidence at the time of this release.
One individual from inside the building, 28-year-old Jose Lopez, was arrested on an unrelated warrant for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana. The other individuals who were previously detained were released pending further investigation. Nobody was arrested at this time reference the person shot earlier in the day on Wednesday. The investigation into both shooting incidents remains active and ongoing.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions.
An arrest is merely an accusation. De La Torre should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Shots were fired at officers during the execution of a search warrant and during the ensuing incident.
On September 14, 2022, at approximately 5:30 pm IMPD responded to E 21st Street and N Arlington Avenue on a person shot. That individual was listed in stable condition. Aggravated assault detectives responded to investigate the incident. Their investigation led detectives to believe evidence related to the shooting may be located inside the business at 6004 Massachusetts Avenue.
At approximately 11:45 pm, IMPD Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team officers were executing a search warrant at 6004 Massachusetts Avenue in connection to the person shot incident that took place earlier in the evening. As officers approached the door, multiple shots were fired from inside the business. Detectives determined the shots were fired at officers. The officers established a perimeter around the building and surrounding area. The Indiana State Police, Carmel Police Department, Fishers Police Department and Lawrence Police Department tactical teams responded to assist with this incident.
As the incident continued, additional shots were fired from inside the building. One adult male exited the building at some point and was detained.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., officers observed multiple individuals laying on the floor inside the building. Out of concern those individuals were injured, officers entered the building. A total of three individuals were inside. An adult female and adult male exited on their own. Officers located and carried an additional adult male out of the building. He was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. All three individuals were checked out by medics.
Immediately upon entering the building, officers smelled a strong, unknown odor. Believing there could be a methamphetamine lab inside, the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression High Hazard Team responded.
No officers fired any weapons during this incident. No officers or uninvolved citizens were injured during this incident. Detectives are confident the person or persons responsible for shooting at officers are in custody and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The IMPD Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene to conduct the criminal investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is assisting with this investigation.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) is being consulted throughout the investigation.
The Police Officer Support Team (POST) responded to provide peer support for officers.
