23 Cited During Pedestrian Safety Operation 
The Berkeley Police Department issued 23 citations for a variety of violations made by drivers during a pedestrian safety operation on September 13th.
23 drivers were cited for violations including VC 21950(a)—Driver failure to yield to pedestrian, VC 27315(d)—seatbelt violation, VC 12500—unlicensed driver, VC 23123—failure to use hands free, and VC 21461—failing to obey a traffic sign.
The operation took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Way at the Addison Street intersection between 11 am and 4 pm. 27 people were contacted during the operation.
“Safety is a shared responsibility, with drivers holding the greatest responsibility to keep other road users safe,” Lt. Jen Tate said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice due care and to look out for one another.”
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This operation is one of several planned in Berkeley for the Pedestrian Safety Month.
