The current TikTok auto theft challenge encourages people to steal 2010-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles of various models, causing an increase in auto thefts. These vehicles are not equipped with an ignition immobilizer, but uses a mechanical key—not a key fob, and push-button to start the vehicle. The ignition is typically compromised by utilizing a USB cord, most of which can already be found inside the vehicle in plain view. This year in Inglewood, Kia and Hyundai vehicles comprised of 34% of total vehicle thefts. Last year, Kia and Hyundai vehicles comprised of 24% of total vehicle thefts, making it a 10% increase theft of these vehicles.

TIPS:  Install a steering wheel locking device, battery disconnect switch, kill switch, GPS tracking device, or antitheft system  Make sure all windows & doors are locked  Park in well-lit, secured areas  Keep USB cords out of sight
