Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of September 5-11, 2022

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Monday, 09-05-22, at approximately 11:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to Nordstrom Rack on a report of a shoplift. An asset protection agent saw the suspect select a pair of shoes, pass registers, and exit the store. Asset protection agents tried to apprehend the suspect, causing one asset protection agent to sustain a cut to his finger. The suspect had stolen a pair of shoes, socks, and a tee-shirt valued at approximately $115. The suspect, a 30-year-old transient, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery.

On Friday, 09-09-22, at approximately 5:19 p.m., Officer McQuade was dispatched to the intersection of Mission Street and Castle Street on a report of a brandishing of a knife. A victim stated he and his brother went to buy a quart of Mobile One oil and while in the store, the suspect came in and stared at them, sizing them up. After the purchase, the victim and his brother went outside the store and the suspect followed and got into the face of the brother. The victim put down the oil on the window sill of the store. The victim said the suspect was “pulling his pants up,” and flexing while in a bladed stance. The victim got between his brother and the suspect, causing the suspect to turn his attention to the victim. The victim said the suspect pulled out a knife and swung the knife towards him while the suspect was 5 to 6 feet away from him. The victim said the suspect then put the knife back into his pants and chased after him. The suspect stopped when he realized that the victim was calling the police. The suspect then stole the quart of Mobile One oil off the window sill and fled in a Cadillac. Eventually, the suspect, a 26-year-old Daly City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for attempted second-degree robbery, brandishing of a knife, and other offenses.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
