On September 16, 2022, from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety conducted a DUI checkpoint through funding that was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The checkpoint location was on Rohnert Park Expressway near the SMART Train tracks. Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

During the checkpoint, 721 vehicles passed through, 601 vehicle drivers were contacted, and 33 vehicle drivers were evaluated. Of the 33 vehicle drivers who were evaluated, 12 drivers
were cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. Additionally, a traffic collision at an intersection leading to the checkpoint resulted in one driver being transported to the hospital for injuries and another driver being arrested for DUI causing injury.

Between January and July 2022, Rohnert Park Public Safety has made 11 arrests for DUI and investigated 5 crashes involving DUI on or near Rohnert Park Expressway. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is committed to keeping those who travel our roadways
