Transient Arrested Hours After Carjacking a Vehicle at a Local Gas Station

SUSPECT(S): Michael Hernandez, 36-year-old Resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY: On Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:08 p.m., deputies with the Yucaipa Station responded to a gas station in the 34000 block of Yucaipa Blvd, for a reported carjacking.
The victim parked his car and left it running while he went inside to make a purchase. While the victim was in the business, an unknown suspect got into his car and began to drive away. The victim ran outside to confront the suspect and he was dragged from the parking lot onto Yucaipa Blvd, as the vehicle sped away. The victim sustained minor injuries.
During an area check several hours later, the stolen vehicle was spotted in a parking lot. The vehicle was occupied by the suspect, identified as Michael Hernandez, a local transient living in Yucaipa. He was arrested for carjacking and transported to the Central Detention Center for booking.
