INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: US Highway 395/ Auburn Avenue, Adelanto
INVOLVED PARTY(S): Driver #1 - David Gillis, 49-Year-Old Resident of Georgia
Vehicle #1 - 2015 Toyota Tundra
Driver #2 - Christopher Dixon, 35-year-old Resident of Adelanto (Deceased)
Vehicle #2 – 1995 Chevrolet Caprice
Driver #3 – Juan Diaz-Pascasio, 33-year-old Resident of Victorville
Vehicle #3 – 2020 Dodge Durango
SUMMARY: On September 18, 2022, deputies from the Victor Valley Station/Adelanto Police Department responded to a multiple vehicle traffic collision on US Highway 395 and Auburn Avenue.
Through investigation, it was determined Christopher Dixon was stopped in the northbound lane of US Highway 395, waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Auburn Avenue. David Gillis, who was also traveling northbound on US Highway 395, rear-ended Dixon. The impact forced Dixon’s vehicle into the southbound lane of the highway, where it was broadsided by a southbound vehicle, driven by Juan Diaz-Pascasio.
Dixon’s vehicle overturned during the incident. He suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Diaz-Pascasio and several passengers in his vehicle received minor to moderate injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment. Gillis was uninjured.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and are conducting the investigation. At this time, alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed do not appear to be a factor in the collision. However, distracted driving is suspected to be a factor. The report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and filing of charges.
