Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau are investigating the sexual assault of a female juvenile.
On Sunday, September 18, 2022, at approximately 2:00 PM, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to Norwalk Station responded to the “Stater Brothers” Supermarket, in unincorporated Whittier, regarding a sexual assault involving a juvenile female victim and an adult male suspect. The suspect followed the victim into the store’s restroom, locked the door, and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed for help, prompting store employees and customers to respond to her aid.
Store employees accessed the bathroom and subsequently detained the suspect pending the arrival of deputies. The victim was medically treated at a local hospital. The suspect was arrested and booked at Norwalk Sheriff’s Station.
Based on the nature of the offense, detectives believe there may be additional unidentified victims. Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying any such victims.
The suspect remains in custody and is being held on $250,000.00 bail. He is scheduled for arraignment on September 20, 2022, at the Bellflower Courthouse.
