On September 14, 2022, Officers were dispatched to the Gateway Park which is currently under construction at the corner of Otis and Orange Avenue for a report of a theft of a gas generator.  Upon arrival officers contacted an employee of Contra Costa Electric who reported a BNG 6500 Gas Generator had been stolen from the worksite.  Officers began collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.  Based on the investigation, Officers were able to identify the suspect as Adrian Vargas. Officers later located Vargas driving on 5 ½ Avenue and conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle. During this contact, Vargas advised Officers where to find the generator and it was returned to the owners. Vargas was booked into the City Jail and later released on a citation to appear in Kings County Superior Court.
