The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito September 16th to September 19th, 2022.

 The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
September 16th

Stolen Vehicle Report – 6000 block of Jordan Ave.
At approximately 11:43am the victim’s 2012 Ford Econoline work van was stolen. 

Robbery – T-Mobile 11511 San Pablo Avenue;
At 6:24 pm officers were sent to the report of a Robbery in progress inside of the store.  A suspect was inside the store armed with a knife demanding money.  The suspect walked into a back room and all the employees and customers walked outside.  The suspect left with a baseball bat and an IPad and fled the scene. 

Public Intoxication – Joann’s Fabrics 300 El Cerrito Plaza;
At 7:04 pm officers were sent to the report of a person drunk and passed out on the floor inside of the store.  Officers arrived and found the person was heavily intoxicated and sleeping on the floor.  They were placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Vandalism – 1400 block of Liberty Street;
At 7:52 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had broken the window on the victim’s vehicle earlier in the day. 
  
September 17th

Robbery with Knife – San Pablo Ave at Knott Ave.
Between 1:30am to 2:30am, victim and the suspect were walking together southbound on San Pablo Ave towards Knott Ave. The suspect was holding the victim's backpack, while the victim was carrying parts for his bicycle.  When the victim asked for his backpack back, the suspect brandished a 6 inch chef knife at the victim and fled southbound on San Pablo Ave. with the victims backpack.
The suspect is described as either a white male or Hispanic male adult, homeless, in his mid 20’s, 5’9”, 170lbs., with brown hair and a goatee. 

Grand Theft – T-Mobile 11511 San Pablo Avenue;
At 7:21 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had stolen one of the display cellular telephones.

Vandalism – 6400 block of Conlon Avenue;
At 7:21 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had shattered the side window on the victim’s vehicle sometime earlier in the day.

September 18th

Vandalism – 24 Hour Fitness 10636 San Pablo Avenue;
At 3:30 am an officer was sent to the report that someone had shattered the side window on the victim’s vehicle sometime in the previous 90 minutes. 

Hit and Run Property Damage Collision – San Pablo Ave at Conlon Ave.
At approximately 12:39pm, El Cerrito police officers responded to a two vehicle collision with airbags deployed.  Officers located an unoccupied black Dodge Charger parked in the east parking stalls of the Home Depot parking lot.  The Charger’s front airbags were deployed and it suffered major damage to its rear ¼ panels and the front/rear passenger wheels. 

It appeared that the driver of the Charger traveled southbound on San Pablo Ave, lost control, sideswiped a light pole on the west curb of San Pablo Ave, pin balled into a cement bollard on the sidewalk, ripping it off the ground and sending it 40 feet into the Home Depot parking. The Charger continued into the parking lot, sideswiped the front of a parked Penske moving truck before coming to stop. Officers were unable to locate the owner of the Charger and it was towed by police at the scene. 

Strong Armed Robbery – Valero 11687 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 4:39pm an unknown suspect reached into the register during a transaction, took approximately $40 in cash and fled on foot southbound on San Pablo Ave.  The suspect was described as a black male adult, 23 years old, bald on the top of his head with hair on the sides, wearing a white t-shirt, dark jeans and white and green shoes. 

Armed Robbery/Assault with a Deadly Weapon - Baxter Creek; Ohlone Greenway at Conlon Ave.
At approximately 4:44pm while investigating a separate incident, El Cerrito police officers were flagged down by a victim who was profusely bleeding from the head.  The victim told officers that he was walking his two bicycles northbound on the BART path near Conlon Ave., when he was confronted by the suspect.  The suspect punched the victim several times in the head with an unknown tool, and fled the area with one of the victims bicycle.  The victim suffered seven lacerations to his face and head, refused to go to the hospital and did not want to cooperate any further with the investigation.

Strong Armed Robbery – Launderland (parking lot) 11785 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 4:29pm, the victim attempted to get his electronic tablet back from a known acquaintance. The suspect refused to return the item, punched the victim in the face and fled southbound San Pablo Ave. in a black/purple Mercedes. The suspect was described as a black male adult, 6’2”, 240lbs, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black shoes.  

September 19th

Burglary – West County Optometry 11780 San Pablo Avenue;
At 2:06 am officer were sent to the report of glass breaking in the complex.  When they arrived they found the front door had been shattered and many pairs of glasses had been stolen. 

Stolen Vehicle Report – 5400 block of Poinsett Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the victims Honda Civic from September 16th – September 19th
 
September 20th

Attempted Grand Theft – Sonoma Avenue near Barrett Avenue;
At 12:53 am an officer was sent to the report that a neighbor had just scared off a suspect attempting to steal the catalytic converter from their neighbors car.  The suspect was scared off before they were able to steal the catalytic converter.
