On 09-21-2022 at 4:38am, deputies were dispatched to a section of railroad tracks near Lucas St and Jamieson Rd in northern Vigo County in reference to a train vs passenger vehicle crash. An investigation revealed that a passenger vehicle attempted to turn around and got stuck on the tracks. The driver then got out of the passenger vehicle and walked away. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was struck by two separate trains traveling in opposite directions. The vehicle was completely destroyed, and several train engines were damaged. The driver of the passenger vehicle was located walking down the road and cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating a vehicle with expired plates. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash. No train personnel were injured in the crash. John Plasse Vigo County Sheriff
