Nocturnal Wonderland Festival Results in Several Arrests and Two Deaths over the Four-Day Event

INCIDENT: Nocturnal Wonderland Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Event
LOCATION: Glen Helen Amphitheater
SUMMARY: During the weekend of September 16 through September 19, 2022, the Glen Helen Amphitheater hosted this year’s Nocturnal Wonderland Electronic Dance Music Festival. This annual event was attended by over 70,000 visitors over the course of four days.
Since 1995, Nocturnal Wonderland has evolved into a two-day music camping event featuring four stages with a variety of music genres and various attractions, including interactive art installations, neon-clad performers, and camping activities.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is contracted by Live Nation to provide law enforcement services during all shows and events at the Glen Helen Amphitheater.
During the weekend, sheriff’s deputies conducted the following enforcement activities and investigations:
PC 647F Drunk in Public– arrest
PC273.5 Spousal Abuse– arrest
PC 261 Rape – arrest
PC 488 Petty Theft– arrest
PC 243e1 Domestic Battery- arrest
The Department of Alcohol Beverage Control participated on Saturday by conducting enforcement related to minors consuming and/or in possession of alcohol, use of fake ID to obtain alcohol, etc. A total of eight citations were issued for minors in possession of alcohol, and one person was issued a citation for possession of a controlled substance.
In addition, onsite medical services evaluated and transported 11 people to local hospitals for further treatment. Two individuals who were transported were later pronounced deceased for unknown reasons. Sheriff’s investigators are conducting investigations into each of the deaths and no additional details are available for release.

On September 27, 2016, the Board of Supervisors approved the formation of an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Taskforce. The purpose of this group was to develop recommendations for enforceable health and safety measures required for events and all other concerts held on county property.
The Nocturnal Festival follows all recommendations and guidelines set forth by the EDM Task Force. Additionally, the EDM Taskforce was to seek input from the community, and to consider changes to future EDM events and all other concerts to address community concerns. The EDM Taskforce includes representatives from the following organizations:
