Weather Update #1: Hurricane Ian
Weather Update #1: Hurricane Ian
The Jekyll Island Authority is actively monitoring the potential impact of Hurricane Ian as it moves closer to the Florida panhandle. Our response teams are in frequent communication with Glynn County EMA, GEMA, GDOT, and the Governor's Office, and will continue to participate in briefings from the NWS Jacksonville to carefully consider any active response needed.
At this time, there are no evacuations planned. Conditions are continuing to be monitored and additional updates will be communicated regarding the potential for any closures.
It is anticipated the island may experience periods of heavy rain and wind, with the possibility of downed trees or powerlines, Thursday and Friday. Please continue to pay close attention to weather updates as they are available. Follow the latest forecast models from the National Weather Service Jacksonville to stay informed between updates.
We strongly encourage you to evaluate your current storm preparedness and plan ahead. You can find more information on storm-ready planning on the JIA website: www.jekyllisland.com/emergency
