Three Men Arrested for Residential Burglary; One of the Victims Sprayed with Bear Spray

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, August 17, 2022 / 11:39 p.m. 

INCIDENT: Residential Robbery  

LOCATION: 14000 block of Pamlico Road, Apple Valley

SUSPECT(S):  1) Steven Sanderson, 31-year-old resident of Apple Valley
                         2) Kyle Bates, 29-year-old resident of Hesperia
                         3) Paul Vargas, 37-year-old resident of Apple Valley

VICTIM(S):  1) 89-year-old male resident of Apple Valley 
                    2) 42-year-old female resident of Apple Valley
                    3) 55-year-old male resident of Apple Valley

SUMMARY: On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 11:39 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to the 14000 block of Pamlico Road in the town of Apple Valley for a report of a residential robbery.

According to the victim, he arrived home and saw three subjects running out of the front door of his residence. The subjects began to run toward the victim's vehicle and one of the subjects hit the victim's driver's side window with a gun. The victim was able to drive away and call for help. When he returned to his residence, he discovered the front door had been kicked in, and his elderly relative had been sprayed with bear spray. The victim also found some of his property was missing. 

Through investigation, the three subjects were identified as Steven Sanderson, Kyle Bates, and Paul Vargas. On August 24, 2022, Bates and Sanderson were arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for residential robbery. On September 22, 2022, Vargas was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for residential robbery. Vargas and Bates are being held in lieu of $200,000 bail. Sanderson is being held in lieu of $325,000 bail.
