South Brunswick Police Department’s Recent Community Events
The South Brunswick Police Department had a busy week in the community last week. Officers were involved in several community programs, and were invited to a “Community Servants Day” in Franklin Park, as well.
Child ID Day
The Police Department’s annual Child ID Day drew the largest crowd in more than five years, with 149 families bringing their children to Police Headquarters to have identification cards made. The cards are not a legal form of identification, but are helpful in providing critical information in the event a child goes missing. The event is held once a year, and was not held the past two years due to the pandemic. Many families come to the event annually, and some expressed how happy they were that the event had started up again.
Community Safety Presentation
Officers visited one community last week to present information on home security, personal safety, and safe driving. The development’s management company requested the presentation, and nearly 50 residents turned up to chat with officers over recent events in the township, discuss ways to keep their homes more secure, and hear safe driving tips, a topic added recently as part of Chief Raymond Hayducka’s initiative to decrease traffic crashes within the township. Chief Hayducka noted, “Traffic deaths are on the rise around the State and nation and we must address it.” One approach to the problem involves the use of community outreach to provide education on traffic safety. The residents responded well to the variety of topics.
Kendall Park Baptist Church Community Servants Day
More than a dozen South Brunswick police officers joined others from surrounding townships and County agencies, along with area fire departments and rescue squads, to visit the Kendall Park Baptist Church last weekend, as they welcomed public servants and thanked them for what they do. The officers, including Chief Hayducka, were pleased to be invited and recognized, and took the opportunity to chat with community members on a variety of topics.
