Narrative:

On September 28, 2022, the Camarillo Investigations Bureau identified and arrested Thousand Oaks resident, Miles Berry, in connection with a commercial burglary and animal cruelty investigation.

On June 9, 2022, Paw Works, a nonprofit animal rescue organization, was broken into during the early morning hours.  The suspect stole “Pretty Girl,” a 2 year old German Shepherd.  Pretty Girl was found hours later near the US 101 Freeway at Wendy Drive suffering from significant injuries.  A “Good Samaritan” stopped and was able to transport Pretty Girl to a nearby Veterinary Hospital.  Unfortunately, Pretty Girl was euthanized due to the serious injuries sustained.

On September 4, 2022, Paw Works received an alarm activation during the early morning hours.  Upon reviewing the video surveillance of the incident, detectives determined the same suspect attempted to gain entry into Paw Works for the second time.  A neighboring business provided video surveillance, which assisted investigators in identifying the suspect.

During the month of September, the Camarillo Investigations Bureau and Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Crime Analysis Unit were able to identify the suspect as Miles Berry.  On September 28, 2022, detectives served a search warrant at Miles Berry’s residence in Newbury Park and recovered evidence linking Miles Berry to both crimes.

Miles Berry was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura on charges of burglary, animal cruelty, and attempted burglary.
