South Brunswick Board of Education Seeks Volunteers for Budget Committee

Dear South Brunswick Community,

We are excited to be sharing with our entire community that we are creating a South Brunswick Town-wide Budget Committee. As the district continues to be challenged by decreased funding from the State, the fiscal impact of a 2% budget rule, and financial factors associated with post-pandemic America, budgeting in SBSD has become more and more complex. It is our hope that the creation of such a committee will provide all facets of the town with more clarity on how school budgeting works and the impact on property taxes.

David Pawlowski, our Business Administrator, and I have put together a framework for this committee with the following schedule:
Meeting #1 Tuesday, October 18th
Meeting #2 Wednesday, November 16th
Meeting #3 Wednesday, December 14th
Meeting #4 Thursday, January 26th

**The group will determine if more meetings are needed for this important work.**

Our goal is to build a diverse committee of township stakeholders who represent the entirety of our town. We are looking for school personnel, district administration and supervisors, Township membership, seniors, parents, business owners, and community members. A school budget impacts all who live, work or operate a business in our town, which is why we are looking for this expanded group of interested folks.

By the conclusion of our work, we expect that at a minimum members will develop a very clear understanding of the budget process, and all fiscal aspects including where the money comes from to operate schools in NJ; State Aid specifically, budget prioritization, the 23-24 budget outlook and some work session time to simulate the process of how decisions get made.

We are looking for these meetings to take place at the Board Office and run on the above nights from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Our process to identify committee membership begins with interested parties completing a brief application. We do this in order to build a diversified group that includes segments of our entire community. Just click HERE and you can complete the brief application. Applications are due by Friday, September 30, 2022.

On behalf of the Board of Education, we invite you to apply to be part of this important work and ask that you complete your application by Friday, September 30th. We ask that all that apply, be fully available on all four dates as listed above. Continuity is important in committees such as this one.

Thank you and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at your earliest convenience.
